The so-called Surface CloudBook (please note that this name is still unconfirmed for the time being, so the device could very well use a different name) will play a double role.

Some other partners, like HP, Dell, Acer, and Lenovo are also likely to join the Windows 10 Cloud push, but as it did with the Surface lineup, Microsoft wants the CloudBook to be the top-of-the-range device for the new OS.
The Chromebook killer
And second of all, the Surface CloudBook will be the company’s first big attempt at slowing down the Chromebook growth. Devices running Google’s OS have grown a lot in the education market lately, primarily because they are affordable, so Microsoft is going for a similar approach that would make Windows 10 S laptops cheaper, but without ignoring build quality and premium features.
The Surface CloudBook will thus be Microsoft’s Chromebook killer, though we do not expect pricing to be that low. On the other hand, Microsoft will focus mostly on features like battery life, with leaked specs showing that hardware requirements are all-day battery life, 32GB storage and 4GB RAM.
