For starters, Focused Inbox is a super-useful feature that was originally launched in the Android and iOS versions of Outlook, Microsoft’s email client based on Accompli, the company and app that the software giant purchased in 2015.
Focused Inbox automatically prioritizes your most important emails and places them in a separate inbox, while all the other messages are displayed in the standard inbox. This means that the emails that are considered to be essential to you are brought to you in a completely clean inbox, thus making sure that you never miss them regardless of how many messages you store in the regular inbox.
With the latest Windows 10 Redstone 3 build, Microsoft brings this feature for Gmail accounts in the Mail app, as well as travel reservations and package deliveries. These two features were previously available exclusively for Outlook.com and Office 365 email addresses.
Coming to production builds before RS3
Microsoft says that it’s currently testing this feature with help from insiders, but everyone else should get it shortly after that depending on feedback – note that this isn’t a feature to come with Windows 10 Redstone 3, but only tested as part of the Insider program.
“Windows Insiders will be the first to try out the new experience as the roll-out gradually happens over the next few weeks. You’ll know the new experience is available for your account when you are prompted to update your Gmail account settings,” Microsoft explains.
Without an official Gmail client in the Windows Store, the Mail app is the most convenient way to connect to Google’s mail service, so there’s no doubt these improvements will come in handy to users. More tweaks and refinements are likely to launch in the coming builds.
